CV?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76473c97 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"76473c97\" regularly comes up among job seekers. Work experience seems like the obvious answer. But what about the other elements of a candidate&#8217;s CV? Do recruiters even pay attention to:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d249deaf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d249deaf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>education?<\/li>\n<li>interests?<\/li>\n<li>skills?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f3ad5da elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0f3ad5da\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Take education, for example. In nearly <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/lobo-hr-historia-i-pozegnanie-firmy-dzieki-ktorej-mam-to-co-kocham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10 years of working in the recruitment industry<\/a>, I have encountered only <strong>one employer<\/strong> who absolutely required candidates to have graduated from a specific university program. Interestingly, this client expected not only a specific field of study but accepted graduates from only one university. I am, of course, setting aside all situations where completing a specific program was necessary to obtain a professional license, such as for lawyers or doctors.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9a2a3ab0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9a2a3ab0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The requirement for a <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/koszt-bledow-rekrutacyjnych\/\">candidate to hold a specific degree is frequently found in job postings<\/a>. In practice, however, this is usually an insignificant expectation, almost entirely disregarded during recruitment processes for positions requiring specific skills or competencies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d539d89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3d539d89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In a <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/rekrutacja-na-portalach-spo%C5%82eczno%C5%9Bciowych-wynik-maciej-michalewski\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">survey examining how recruiters work on social media platforms<\/a>, we asked recruiters to rate individual elements of a candidate&#8217;s profile during initial screening. <strong>Elements related to education and interests received nearly the lowest ratings<\/strong>. Below those <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/biometria-w-rekrutacji\/\">elements, only the candidate&#8217;s photo and name scored lower<\/a>. It appears that recruiters \u2014 and therefore employers \u2014 themselves admit that <strong>a candidate&#8217;s education is of little importance.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0849dff5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0849dff5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>Our recruiter survey results showed that work experience was rated as the most important CV <a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/wszystko-o-ats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #0000ff\">element<\/a>, while education and interests ranked near the bottom. Out of all profile elements evaluated, professional experience dominated with over 80% of recruiters marking it as their primary focus during initial screening.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc3269ac elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc3269ac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Another survey was prepared by <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rekruterzbroda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Grzegorz Deszczka<\/a>. The survey was published on LinkedIn. Of the 344 people who voted at the time this article was updated, 86% confirmed that they pay the most attention to experience in a CV.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4fd27802 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4fd27802\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>In Deszczka&#8217;s LinkedIn poll asking &#8220;Which CV section do you pay the most attention to?&#8221;, the results were clear: Experience \u2014 86%, Education \u2014 6%, Skills \u2014 5%, Interests \u2014 3%.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3982fff0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3982fff0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Survey research is very useful, but we wanted to take a closer look at how recruiters actually work. We decided to investigate how an experienced recruiter&#8217;s gaze analyzes a candidate&#8217;s CV \u2014 what they look at first and what they focus on the most. For this purpose, we used eye-tracking technology. The research was conducted as part of the development of <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Element<\/a>, an <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/wszystko-o-ats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATS system<\/a> that automates the daily work of recruiters and hiring managers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8aad98f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b8aad98f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I also had the opportunity to participate in this study. In the photo below, I am wearing special glasses that precisely track my eye movements.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd632e22 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"fd632e22\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/biometria-225x300.jpg\" data-elementor-open-lightbox=\"yes\" data-e-action-hash=\"#elementor-action%3Aaction%3Dlightbox%26settings%3DW10%3D\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/biometria-225x300.jpg\" title=\"\" alt=\"Eye-tracking recruitment ATS system\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-12b128f6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"12b128f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The biometric research we conducted \u2014 specifically oculographic (eye-tracking) studies \u2014 confirmed that the ratings declared in surveys match the actual way recruiters perform initial analysis. When reading a CV, <strong>recruiters primarily focus on work experience, while nearly completely ignoring education<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8b0251de elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8b0251de\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We generated a <strong>heat map<\/strong> showing how a recruiter analyzes a candidate&#8217;s profile. The yellow, orange, and red areas correspond to the work experience section, <strong>where the recruiter&#8217;s gaze lingered the longest<\/strong>. The closer the color is to red, the more time the recruiter spent focusing their gaze on that area.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b4230f63 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b4230f63\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>The eye-tracking heat map of a candidate&#8217;s CV revealed that virtually all visual attention (red and orange zones) was concentrated on the work experience section. The education section received minimal attention (brief green zones), while the interests and hobbies section was almost entirely ignored.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a00ae9bd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a00ae9bd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>You can read more about our biometric study in my article: <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/3-sekundy-tyle-wystarczy-by-odrzucic-kandydata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3 seconds \u2014 that&#8217;s all it takes to reject a candidate&#8217;s profile. Biometric research results.<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9c98f23 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e9c98f23\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Evidence that recruiters focus primarily on candidates&#8217; work experience can now be found extensively online. This should not surprise anyone. Relevant professional experience confirms that:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a2ad238b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a2ad238b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>we most likely possess the necessary competencies or qualifications to perform the work required by the position<\/li>\n<li>we have actual professional experience, as opposed to non-professional activities related solely to personal interests or hobbies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c214d288 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c214d288\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>From these two facts, additional benefits for the employer follow, such as:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3334b284 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3334b284\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>faster employee onboarding<\/li>\n<li>higher work efficiency<\/li>\n<li>lower turnover risk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0718e71f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0718e71f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A person with the right education but lacking the required professional experience will typically be someone who:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1998ba27 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1998ba27\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>requires longer training and onboarding<\/li>\n<li>takes significantly longer to achieve high productivity<\/li>\n<li>carries an increased risk of turnover<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b186d002 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b186d002\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>These are precisely the reasons why recruiters pay attention primarily to work experience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85efdeba elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"85efdeba\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Younger readers and parents will probably ask \u2014 what about education? Is education in a CV irrelevant?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d72e8d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1d72e8d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Education is the foundation upon which we build professional experience. Without the right education, it is difficult to become a lawyer, a doctor, or a programmer.
