It sparked quite a debate \u2013 some people agreed, others shook their heads in disbelief. So I decided to gather my arguments in one place and develop them more thoroughly than a social media post allows.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9e2bee32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9e2bee32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Before I get into the details, let me state my thesis plainly: <strong>Microsoft Office in its current form is destined to die out.<\/strong> Not in twenty years. Not in ten. The process has already begun and is accelerating with each passing month.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1a319299 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1a319299\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Three Phases of Transition<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d8b1531 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3d8b1531\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To understand why Office is dying, you need to see the bigger picture of how our interaction with computers is changing. We&#8217;re passing through three fundamental phases:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb2e3ae6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bb2e3ae6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Phase one: clicking buttons and verifying results.<\/strong> This is the world we&#8217;ve lived in for decades. You open Word, click &#8220;Insert Table,&#8221; format manually, check if it looks right. You open Excel, type a formula, verify the result. You open PowerPoint, drag elements around a slide, adjust fonts. Every operation requires a graphical user interface and your constant, undivided attention.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75d57248 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"75d57248\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Phase two: issuing commands and verifying results.<\/strong> This is the phase we&#8217;re in right now. You tell the AI: &#8220;reformat this document,&#8221; &#8220;merge these two spreadsheets by the ID column,&#8221; &#8220;extract data from this PDF and put it in a table&#8221; \u2013 and you get your result. You still need to check whether everything is correct, but you no longer need to know where to click. You don&#8217;t need to know the interface. You don&#8217;t need to remember which menu hides that option.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c939d38a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c939d38a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Phase three: issuing commands without needing to verify.<\/strong> This is the phase we&#8217;re heading toward. When AI model error rates drop low enough \u2013 and they&#8217;re dropping with every new release \u2013 verification will only be necessary for the most critical matters. And that&#8217;s precisely when the entire Office interface \u2013 all those ribbons, context menus, dialog boxes, toolbars \u2013 <strong>will cease to have any relevance whatsoever<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c37b9a2c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c37b9a2c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Think about it for a moment. Why would you need a program&#8217;s interface if you never open it? Why would you need to know VLOOKUP when the AI executes the task on your command? Why would you need to know how to format a table in Word when all you have to say is &#8220;make it look nice&#8221;?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-890b5f69 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"890b5f69\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What AI Can Already Do Today<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71b52b0a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"71b52b0a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Instead of theorizing, let me show you what the Claude model, for example, can do in practice. Not next year, not in beta \u2013 right now, in production, every single day:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f7e4a98e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f7e4a98e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><strong>Fills out forms<\/strong> \u2013 give it a form and source data, and it fills in all fields correctly, with proper formatting and validation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edits PDFs<\/strong> \u2013 extracts data from PDF documents, modifies content, creates new documents from existing ones. Things that used to require Adobe Acrobat Pro and an hour of clicking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Copies document fragments and creates new ones from them<\/strong> \u2013 no manual copy-paste, no formatting that falls apart, no &#8220;why does this heading have a different font.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Modifies Excel files<\/strong> \u2013 changes data, recalculates, formats, creates new worksheets, merges files. More on this in a moment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creates presentations<\/strong> \u2013 just recently, a dedicated PowerPoint plugin appeared that lets Claude directly manipulate slides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8fe6b3ce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8fe6b3ce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>These aren&#8217;t experimental lab features. This is the daily reality of thousands of people who, instead of clicking through the Office interface, simply type a command in a chat window.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3888ed52 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3888ed52\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>More importantly, the quality of these operations is improving at a pace that&#8217;s hard to imagine. Just a year ago, Claude struggled with more complex spreadsheets. Today, it handles them flawlessly. Each new model version is noticeably better than the last at these kinds of tasks. And there&#8217;s no indication this trend is slowing down \u2013 quite the opposite.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c7c026bb elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"c7c026bb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Excel \u2013 The Best Proof<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2500963e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2500963e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Of all the tools in the Office suite, Excel is perhaps the best example of what&#8217;s happening. Why Excel specifically? Because it was always considered &#8220;that advanced tool&#8221; that requires specialist knowledge to master. Companies spend fortunes on Excel training. Recruiters ask for &#8220;advanced Excel skills&#8221; in job postings. Microsoft Excel Specialist certificates are treated as serious qualifications.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e3db9e75 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e3db9e75\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Let me put it bluntly: <strong>there is no task involving data processing in xlsx or csv files that today&#8217;s AI cannot execute flawlessly.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bdfec274 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bdfec274\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>And you don&#8217;t need to:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8df02233 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8df02233\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol>\n<li>open Excel, or<\/li>\n<li>know Excel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8c5c9fec elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8c5c9fec\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>All you need is a data file and access to AI. Nothing more.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-037ad86c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"037ad86c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>By processing, I mean the full range of operations that used to require hours of work and advanced expertise:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-44bc48f4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"44bc48f4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><strong>Merging and splitting data<\/strong> \u2013 combining worksheets from different files, breaking large datasets into smaller ones, joining data from various sources by a common key. What used to require VLOOKUP, INDEX\/MATCH, or Power Query in Excel, AI does with a single command.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Moving data<\/strong> \u2013 between worksheets, files, cells, in any configuration. No manual copying, no reference errors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Editing data<\/strong> \u2013 bulk changes, deduplication, format normalization, data type conversion. Tasks that required complicated formulas or macros in Excel.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Statistical analysis<\/strong> \u2013 from simple averages and medians to advanced regression models, correlation analyses, statistical tests. No need to install additional plugins.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charts and visualizations<\/strong> \u2013 generated automatically, with appropriate chart type selection, axis formatting, legends. What takes a dozen clicks and constant tweaking in Excel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb4fcd93 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb4fcd93\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Think about how many people in companies spend hours learning Excel. How many courses, trainings, certifications, how much time wasted debugging formulas and macros. And all you need to say is: &#8220;merge these two files by the ID column and show me the differences&#8221; \u2013 and it&#8217;s done. No formulas, no macros, no VBA, no knowledge of the interface required.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5f3bbad elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b5f3bbad\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This isn&#8217;t a vision of the future. The real change will be even deeper and more fundamental.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3026cadf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3026cadf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Act one:<\/strong> Office is beginning to morph into a prompt-driven tool. Microsoft is already doing this by introducing Copilot across all Office applications. But this is merely a transitional phase \u2013 something like a smartphone with a physical keyboard at the dawn of the iPhone era. Modern on the surface, but still desperately clinging to the old paradigm.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cf34a423 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cf34a423\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Act two:<\/strong> the document workflow itself will begin to systematically lose its relevance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc8dd073 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc8dd073\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Why? Because documents are fundamentally information carriers designed for humans. A report in Word exists so that a human can read it. A spreadsheet in Excel exists so that a human can see data in tabular form. A PowerPoint presentation exists so that a human can view slides.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-98ebd57f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"98ebd57f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But if AI agents stand on both sides of a process \u2013 one creating information, the other consuming it and making decisions based on it \u2013 then why have a document at all? An agent doesn&#8217;t need pretty formatting in Word. It doesn&#8217;t need colorful charts in Excel. It doesn&#8217;t need transition animations in PowerPoint. It needs data in a structured format it can efficiently process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4febf433 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4febf433\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>And this is where agent communication protocols come in: <strong>APIs, MCP (Model Context Protocol), WebMPC<\/strong>, and other standards that the entire AI industry is actively developing. Instead of generating a Word report and sending it by email, an agent will simply expose data through an API. Instead of creating a quarterly summary presentation, an agent will pass structured data to another agent that will make an operational decision.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f5cfbe1c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f5cfbe1c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This is a world where <strong>documents in the traditional sense become artifacts of a bygone era.<\/strong> And if documents are unnecessary, then the tool for creating them \u2013 Office \u2013 is unnecessary too.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0171a644 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0171a644\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">But People Will Always Want to Read Reports...<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ebd8f4d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0ebd8f4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I can already hear the counterarguments. &#8220;People will always want to read reports.&#8221; &#8220;Presentations are needed for meetings.&#8221; &#8220;Excel is a standard that nobody will replace.&#8221;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ffef1ffe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ffef1ffe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>My answer is an analogy: people also wanted a physical keyboard on their phones. Studies were conducted that confirmed this. BlackBerry was the king of the market. Then the iPhone appeared with its touchscreen, and it turned out people wanted something completely different \u2013 they just didn&#8217;t know it existed until someone showed them.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42f0f552 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42f0f552\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The same will happen with office documents. When AI agents start getting things done faster, cheaper, and better than traditional document workflows, people will stop missing Word. Just as they stopped missing physical keyboards on their phones.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b832f6bd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b832f6bd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We can already see this process in <a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/blog\/full-work-automation-through-ai-polemic-with-dr-przegalinska\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #0000ff\">business process automation<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/wszystko-o-ats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #0000ff\">ATS<\/a> systems in recruitment are a perfect example \u2013 instead of manually reviewing CVs in Word, algorithms process application documents automatically. <a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\/wszystko-o-ats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #0000ff\">Element<\/a> takes it even further, eliminating successive manual steps from the process. But every revolution eventually gets replaced by the next one.
