But the recent events in the US and their collision with technology, specifically social networks, are so wild that I had to write about them. Fair warning: this article has nothing to do with <a href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" style=\"color: #0000ff\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">our recruitment system<\/span><\/a>, recruitment, or HR. In political conversations, <strong>Twitter<\/strong> gets lumped in too, mostly because of its outsized role in spreading information and its special place in political campaigns ever since Donald Trump made it his megaphone.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f6e9337 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1f6e9337\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trump presidency was one controversy after another. And now we are watching the Big Tech part of the story blow up:<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-421e4a2c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"421e4a2c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twitter &#8212; Trump&#8217;s account blocked, all posts deleted.<\/span><\/li><li>Twitter &#8212; The official @POTUS account (President of the United States) &#8212; Trump&#8217;s latest posts are being removed, though the account itself stays up.<\/li><li>Facebook &#8212; Trump&#8217;s account banned.<\/li><li>Instagram &#8212; Trump&#8217;s account banned.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-113a99f9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"113a99f9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So what are American conservatives doing? They are migrating en masse to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/parler.com\/auth\/access\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #1010e0;\">Parler<\/span><\/a><\/span>, a messenger that promises more freedom around published content and no censorship of the kind they got used to on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d471a53 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4d471a53\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The migration is so massive that Parler simply cannot handle the traffic. The app has been glitching and crashing for days.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9d3c129b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9d3c129b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Elon Musk &#8212; who has been going after Facebook ever since the<span style=\"color: #1010e0;\"> <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cambridge_Analytica#The_Scandal\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Cambridge Analytica scandal<\/a><\/span> (<span style=\"color: #1010e0;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/5212921\/elon-musk-deletes-facebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">he deleted his own profile, Tesla&#8217;s, and SpaceX&#8217;s from the platform<\/a><\/span>) &#8212; Amazon terminates its hosting agreement for the app. The notice period? 24 hours. Ruthless.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a5e02e08 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a5e02e08\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The polarization that social media feeds on (this mechanism was brilliantly laid out in the Netflix documentary <span style=\"color: #1818de;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt11464826\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Social Dilemma<\/a>)<\/span> has cranked political conflict up to levels I have never seen before. And it has triggered a real exodus of users from the dominant platforms to alternatives like <span style=\"color: #1818de;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/parler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Parler<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #1818de;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.minds.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Minds.com<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #1818de;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/signal.org\/pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Signal<\/a><\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #1818de;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/telegram.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Telegram<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bb0cb653 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bb0cb653\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is happening right now is a clear signal that there is real demand for alternative platforms. This could trigger something that seemed almost impossible just a few years ago &#8212; the dominance of Twitter, Facebook, and Google actually slowing down, and eventually, cracking.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-614240bc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"614240bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One more thing. They already are. Right now, conservatives are actively searching for new platforms, and the explosion in Parler and Signal downloads is direct proof.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd63453b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd63453b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Second, I do not think nationalizing Twitter or Facebook is realistic. What I do think is realistic? Legal restrictions on censorship. But I am worried, too. There are voices in the US calling for companies and individuals to be denied services based on their political or social views. I would really not want Google &#8212; whose services are the infrastructure behind our <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/elementapp.ai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recruitment system<\/a><\/span> &#8212; to come to us one day with an ultimatum to drop a client because that client&#8217;s business conflicts with some political stance. In Poland, this sounds absurd.
